4" Pig Launchers and Receivers for a Water Reclamation Plant

Sweco Fab, Inc. manufactured 4" pig launchers and receivers for a water reclamation plant in Savage, Maryland.

These launchers and receivers are to aid in the utilization of an oxidation ditch activated sludge process designed for nitrification / de-nitrification and phosphorous removal. The design consists of components such as T-bolt closures, side outlet tees and 4", 150-psi flanges with protectors. After being built to ASME, Sect. VIII, Div. 1, the launchers and receivers were shop prime painted to prevent against corrosion.

Cylinder Pipe Guides

Cylinder Pipe Guides

Cylinder Pipe GuidesPiping Technology & Products, Inc. designed and manufactured cylinder pipe guides for an energy center in Canada.

These guides, which are frequently referred to as spider guides, are designed to control lateral pipe movement and maintain the alignment of the piping through its axial and contraction cycles. A single piping run uses spider guides in number to avoid a fulcrum or an imposed lateral deflection on critical components.

These spider guides were designed for pipes ranging from 1" to 20" diameter with 1" to 4" of insulation. The components include carbon steel plates, stock clamps, angles and green-primer coated pipes. The outer shields have diameters ranging of approximately 6" to 29-1/2" with a bottom-of-angle to center-of-pipe dimensions of 3-1/8" to 15-3/4". The maximum design temperature for the spider guides is 750°F.

24", Chrome-Moly, Three-Bolt Clamps with Stanchions

Piping Technology & Products, Inc. designed and fabricated 24", chrome-moly, three-bolt clamps with horizontal guide stanchions for a 765 MW natural gas-fired combined cycle facility in Mexico. These clamps, in conjunction with variable springs, will allow for vertical and axial pipe movement while restricting lateral movements. They were made for 24" OD pipe from 1-1/2 x 9" stock material. Based upon design considerations, the clamp "E" dimension, from pipe centerline to outer load bolt, was 25". The clamps were designed for operation at 1065°F and per customer-supplied information, the vertical design load was 1,848 lbs and the maximum lateral load was 19,207 lbs. The clamp plates are made of A387 GR. 22 plate material, stanchion pieces of A335 GR.22 pipe and the side stop plates of carbon steel.

Constant Spring Hangers with Loads up to 105,000 Lbs.

Constant Spring Hangers with Loads up to 105,000 Lbs.

Piping Technology & Products, Inc., custom designed and fabricated a collection of constants for an oil refinery in New Jersey. This application required the use of suspended constants, 100-C and base constants, 200-F.

Constant Spring Hangers with Loads up to 105,000 Lbs.In order to support the lines at the oil refinery, PT&P designed the 100-C constant spring hangers (vertical constants suspended from beams) at two different loads and total travels. The 100-C constant with a load of 105,000-lbs. and total travel of 6" (figure 1) is set to travel 1-3/4" down and 1-15/16" up. It is 38-3/8" in width, 79-1/4" in height and furnished with a double lug suspension to allow it to hang from a double point suspension beam.

In comparison to the aforementioned constant, this particular 100-C constant spring hanger (figure 2) has a load of 33,000 lbs. and a total travel of 4-1/2", 3/8" up and 1-1/2" down. This specific constant is 24-1/4" in width, 71" in height and also furnished with a double lug suspension to suspend from a double point suspension beam. Although the dimensions of these two constants are similar, the size of the springs and cams are very different.

Opposed to the 100-C constant, the 200-F constant spring hanger is a horizontal constant used to support piping from below. These 200-F constant spring hangers were designed with loads of 40,750 lbs. and total travels of 4-1/2", 3/8" up and 1-3/4" down. These constants will be used in conjunction with sway struts to support pipelines at the oil refinery.

Stainless Steel Stanchions for a Power Company

Stainless Steel Stanchions for a Power Company

Piping Technology & Products, Inc. provided 35 stainless steel stanchions for pipe sizes 4 to 18 inches for a power company in Alabama.

The ends of the stanchions have shop-cut end connections that will allow field welding without any modifications by site personnel. Some stanchions were provided with straight pipe connections and others were provided with elbow connections. The minimum height requirement provided for a centerline height equal to approximately 16" while the maximum pipe centerline was required to be at approximately 58 ½". The stanchions were designed at 1100°F and sustained a maximum design load of 18,000 pounds. The stanchion base plates are 304 stainless steel and the tubes are constructed of A240 GR.304 seamless pipe.

Big Ton Springs With Loads Up To 450,600 Newtons

Piping Technology & Products, Inc. specially designed and fabricated Big Ton Variable Springs for a chemical project in Canada. The supporting beams are 30" in length with PTFE, 25% glass filled stainless steel slide plates. The Big Ton Springs were designed with six coil springs with external guides to prevent horizontal twisting and internal guides to withstand horizontal friction forces. These units were also designed for operating loads from 260,000 to 350,000 Newtons and hydro-test loads from 300,000 to 450,600 Newtons. A total of six units were painted with a special finish specified by the client.

Type F Variable Springs With Specially Made Locking Devices

Piping Technology & Products, Inc. specially designed twelve Type-F variable spring hangers (4-160-F, 8-170-F, 8-180-F) for an oil refinery in Indiana. These variable spring hangers were custom designed to support a Hydro-Test load 4.5 to 5 times the design load, which ranged from 7,988 lb. to 13,075 lb. The spring rates of the variable spring hangers ranged from 500 lb./in. to 750 lb./in. with travels of 1.15" to 2.82", upward movement respectively. The locking devices for these springs were manufactured using basic materials (rods, hex nuts and heavy pipe wall) and a special pressure plate to accommodate the application design criteria requested by the client. The base plate designed for these F- Type cans were modified to accommodate the locking devices.

40" Diameter, Alloy Yoke Clamp

40" Diameter Alloy Yoke Clamp

PT&P specially designed and manufactured a heavy duty, 40-inch diameter, alloy yoke clamp (cut from a 6" thick plate) for a Power Plant in Mississippi. The clamp was designed for a 70,000 lb load and is to support a 40" diameter, high pressure main steam line. The u-bolt was made of a 3" diameter bar. In order to prove the design of this clamp, Finite Element Analysis was used to simulate the loads and stresses that it may experience in the field. The model shows the stresses at every point by a color coding system.

Inside of the Pipe Anchor

Piping Technology & Products, Inc. manufactured cryogenic pipe anchors for gas refinery in Savannah, Georgia. The pipe anchors were fabricated with stainless steel and insulated with polyurethane foam. In order to prevent cold pumping, better known as temperature driven moisture penetration, polyurethane foam was poured around a stainless steel reinforcing pad. The ten cryogenic pipe anchors were fabricated to support 4-inch, 8-inch and 12-inch pipes. PT&P’s pre-insulated pipe supports department is devoted to the production of pipe insulation productions for both hot and cold applications.

68" In Height Vertical Upthrust Constants

Piping Technology & Products, Inc. designed and built two, 68" in height 100 U-Type constants for a power plant in Mexico. The vertical upthrust constants were designed to support 48,500 lb. each with a total upward travel of 3". In order to prevent buckling of the constant housing, each constant was designed with five C7 x 14 3/4 lb. channels and a base plate of 26 3/8" x 33 1/4". These unique 100 U-Type upthrust constants were custom designed by PT&P to accommodate limited horizontal space requirement. The constants will be placed opposite to each other on a beam capable of supporting 99,000 lb. load of the pipe, plus the weight of the constants.
