Custom Variable Boiler Spring Assemblies

Piping Technology & Products, Inc. recently custom designed and fabricated 63 variable spring assemblies used to support a boiler in a power plant.  Three sets of custom springs were designed for this project. The first group measures 14 x 14 x 17 1/8 and can support 45,000 lbs. per inch. The next group can support up to 28,000 lbs. per inch and measures 16 x 16 x 17 11/16. The third group measures 15 x 15 x 17 9/16 and can support 38,000 lbs. per inch. The coils in the assembly are made from 2 15/16 diameter coil with 2 3/4 or 3 active coils.

The variable spring assemblies are carbon steel with an inorganic zinc primer finish. The spring coils are A4161-H material with a neoprene exterior coating. Each spring coil was tested to insure the wire diameter, coil height and spring rates met customer specifications.

Vertical Constant Supports for a Refinery

Piping Technology & Products, Inc. custom designed and manufactured eight Type F vertical constant supports for a refinery in Ohio.  The constants are capable of supporting 2,000 to 3,500 lbs. and have a maximum travel of 5. They are constructed of carbon steel and each weighs 270 lbs. Standard load and adjustment testing was performed to ensure quality prior to shipping.

 Constants that Support up to 38,800 lbs.

Piping Technology & Products, Inc. custom designed and manufactured four PTP-100 Type G constants and three PTP-100 Type C constants for a power station in Missouri.  The PTP-100 Type C constants are designed for operating loads of 8,300 lbs. to 25,200 lbs. and have a travel range of 2.5 to 3.5. These constants are fabricated from A36 carbon steel with dimensions ranging from 66x18 to 88x20.

The PTP-100 Type G constants are designed for operating loads ranging from 2,800 lbs. to 38,800 lb. and a travel range of 2.5 to 3.5. They are fabricated out of A36 carbon steel with dimensions ranging from 75x26.5 to 95x50. Standard load and adjustment testing was performed to ensure quality prior to shipping.

46 Constants for Hydrogen Reformer

Piping Technology & Products, Inc. custom designed and manufactured 46 PTP 100-C size 50 constants for a hydrogen reformer in Chile. The constants measure 30 x 48, designed for a vertical travel range of 11 and an operating load capacity of 2,600 lbs. They are fabricated out of A36 carbon steel. To ensure quality, standard load and travel tests were performed prior to shipping.

70,000 lb. Load Constants for Power Plant

These constants are designed for a vertical travel range of 8.5 and an operating load capacity of 70,000 lbs. They are fabricated out of A36 carbon steel with dimensions of 45x80. Prior to shipping, standard load and travel tests were performed to ensure product quality.

Piping Technology and Products, Inc. custom designed and manufactured variable springs to be used in conjunction with a rod and clevis assembly for a power plant in West Virginia.  Since the operating loads specified by the customer were greater than the maximum loads for the largest PT&P spring, custom units needed to be built for this application. The springs were fabricated using a large spring coil, normally only used in constant spring assemblies. The spring is 20 1/2" in diameter and has a standing height of 51". All components of the pipe hanger assembly were made from carbon steel and were supplied with a hot-dipped galvanized finish. The spring is 20 1/2" in diameter and has a standing height of 51".  The rods will be attached to type A variable springs designed to support loads from 850 lbs. to 13,300 lbs. Manufactured from A-36 carbon steel, the rods are 3/4" to 2" in diameter and range in length from 68" to 95".

To prevent contamination at high temperatures, a non-galvanized finish was applied to the rods per customer's request. Prior to delivery, a 100% dye-penetrant test was preformed to ensure quality.  The variable springs were tested in the load cell to insure proper operation and also to set the cold load to the specifications as provided by the customer.

Constants for an Oil Refinery in Texas

PTP-100 Type B Constants

Piping Technology & Products, Inc. recently fabricated 48 PTP-200 type U and 54 PTP-100 type B constants for an oil refinery in Texas.  The PTP 200 type U with base support constants are designed for operating loads ranging from 650 lbs. to 7700 lbs. and a travel range of 3" to 4". They are fabricated out of A36 carbon steel with dimensions ranging from 15"x22" to 27"x38". The PTP 100 type B constants are fabricated from A36 carbon steel with dimensions ranging from 11.5"x23" to 12"x29" and total travel of 3" to 4". These constants are designed for operation loads ranging from 1100 lbs. to 2800 lbs.  Space restrictions required a customized compact design. Standard load testing was performed to ensure product quality prior to shipping.

PTP-100 Type U

Constants for Operating Loads of up to 25,000 lbs

Piping Technology & Products, Inc. custom designed and fabricated PTP-100 type U and PTP-100 type A constants.  The PTP-100 type U constants are designed for operating loads of up to 17,000 lbs. and a travel range of 3.5". They are fabricated from A36 carbon steel with dimensions of 32"x48"x13". The PTP-100 type A constants are fabricated from the same material and measure 39"x42"x14". The type A constants are designed to support loads up to 25,000 lbs. and enable downward travel of up to 4". Standard load testing was performed to ensure product quality before shipping.

6600 lb. load PTP-4 Type C Variable Springs with Riser Clamps

PT&P recently designed and manufactured six, PTP-4-160 type C variable springs with riser clamps for an oil refinery in Texas.  These variable springs are constructed from carbon steel and designed to support loads of 6600 lb. with a total travel of 2". The clamps are fabricated from A 387 Gr. 22 alloy steel to fit 18" pipes. Dimensional and fit-up tests were performed on the variable springs and riser clamps prior to shipping.

5,800 lb. load Type F Variable Springs

Piping Technology and Products, Inc. recently designed and fabricated eighteen 1,200 lb to 5,800 lb. load PTP-2 type F size 100 to 150 variable springs for a company in South Korea. These variable springs fabricated from carbon steel are designed for 200°F. They have an overall height of 9.5" to 11.5" and are designed for a travel range of 1/8" upward to 3/16" downward. Per the customer's request the variables were coated with a custom paint. To ensure quality, standard load testing was performed on the variables prior to shipping.
