F-type Variable Spring Support with a Stainless Steel Wire Rope Isolator

This F-type variable spring support was customized with a wire rope isolator for a facility located in Canada. The variable spring was designed for a load of 12,000 lb. The wire rope isolator is essentially a 1.25" diameter stainless steel rope looped eight times between two chemically conversion coated aluminum alloy retaining bars. The wire rope isolator is effective in vibration isolation and energy absorption.

Mechanical Snubber Assemblies Custom Designed for an Oil Refinery

Mechanical Snubber Assemblies This week's feature is on mechanical snubber assemblies custom designed for an oil refinery in California. This project included twenty mechanical snubber assemblies with load ratings from 16,000 lb. to 40,000 lb. and lengths ranging from 65-1/2" to 103-1/2". Some of the snubbers were designed to double the standard stroke (up to 12") by using two MSA-10 sized snubbers back-to-back. All the assemblies were custom designed by adding a carbon steel pipe extension piece. Load tests were performed and the assemblies were shipped in just under four weeks.

Pig Launcher and Receiver with a Flag Indicator

PT&P’s Sweco Fab division designed and manufactured a pig launcher and receiver with a flag type  indicator and a flanged HI-T Pig Alert pig signaler. They are fabricated from carbon steel with a three coat paint system. The pig launcher has an 8” diameter minor barrel, a 10” diameter major barrel, and is 110” in overall length. The pig receiver has a 10” major barrel, a GD II Closure and is 170” in overall length. They are designed for 430 psig at 100°F and were hydro-tested at 645 psig , held for four hours. Both pig launcher and receiver went through a 100% radiography test prior to shipment.

Hydraulic Snubber vs. Mechanical Snubber

Posted by Justin L on Mar 10, 2011
Have you ever wondered which type of  snubber to select for your piping system? Should you pick a hydraulic snubber or should you pick a mechanical snubber? Which one is right for your application? This seems to be a common concern for quite a few of our customers, so we have just recently published an article that discusses the pros and cons for both hydraulic and mechanical snubbers.  Check out the article, Suitability of Snubbers for Various Applications.

Why perform a pipe support walk-down in your plant?

Posted by Justin L on Jan 31, 2011

Ever wondered just how important it is to regularly walk through your plant to ensure proper functionality of all pipe supports in the piping system? Understanding the critical nature of properly functioning pipe supports and how they contribute to the overall system, one should thoroughly inspect each component for proper operation during different phases of the life of the unit.

Sliding Cryogenic Insulated Supports for a 60" Diameter Vapor Line

Sliding Cryogenic Insulated Supports

These sliding cryoshoes are fabricated from carbon steel with 2" thick polyurethane insulation. The polyurethane is 20 lb. density, which has a compressive strength of 500 psi and a tensile strength of 600 psi. The cold shoes are designed for temperatures as low as -300°F and for loads up to 3,500 lb. They will be used to support a 60" diameter low temperature vapor line in a Texas facility.
