Original Supports (not fabricated by PT&P)

PT&P received a call to inspect spring supports in operation at a salt water cooler tower. It was quickly determined that replacement supports would be needed due to the heavy corrosion of the original supports not fabricated by PT&P.

A total of 40 constant and variable spring supports were fabricated as replacements. Each support was sealed with a neoprene coating over a hot-dip galvanized finish instead of stainless steel. This type of finish will ensure a much longer life-span. The spring supports ranged in loads from 800 lb. to 15,000 lb. with various travel ranges.

19 Sets of Phosphorus Bronze and Stainless Steel Slide Plates

Posted by Justin L on Sep 13, 2010

19 Sets of Phosphorus Bronze and Stainless Steel Slide Plate Assemblies for Supporting Vessels

The slide plate assembliesare fabricated from stainless steel, phosphorus bronze, and carbon steel. The 2" thick carbon steel base plate is securely anchored to a concrete foundation, and the stainless steel slide plates are affixed to the base plate by countersunk attachment bolts. The phosphorus bronze slide plates, with machined grooves on the underside are placed on top of the stainless steel plates.

To allow for lubrication between to the contact surfaces of the two slide plates, grease is added through a fitting on the side of the bronze slide plate. The fitting allows access to a channel in the center of the bronze slide plate that leads to the grooves. A hole is located in the 2" thick base plate to allow for grout to be poured through after installation.

Structural Steel Supports Coated with Red Oxide Primer for a Plant

Posted by Justin L on Sep 01, 2010

Structural Supports Coated with Red Oxide Primer for a Power Plant
The structural pipe supports are fabricated from carbon steel and coated with red oxide primer. The structural steel will be stored in a warehouse for several months while the power plant is being built. Due to the plant's location along the United States East Coast, the use of the red oxide primer was selected. Also, modifications were made to our standard "insulation saddles" to allow for a higher load capacity; which can be seen in the foreground of the image above.

Custom Sway Braces with Ball Joints for a Refinery

Custom Sway Braces with Ball Joints for a Refinery

28 sway braces were custom designed from a combination of carbon steel and A-5160 spring steel. Custom design and fabrication was required due to the design loads and movements exceeding the largest standard sway brace assembly. The application required ball joint ends because the angle of incline exceeded the maximum five degree angle. The largest of the sway braces was designed for an operating load of 10,000 lb. with a travel range of 5" in either compression or extension. Each sway brace was load and travel tested prior to shipping to ensure functionality throughout the entire travel range.
