9200 lb. Load Type “E” Constant Hanger Assemblies

PT&P designed and manufactured forty PTP 200- type “E” constant hanger assemblies with pipe sizes ranging from 36” to 62” for an oil refinery in Canada.  These constant hanger assemblies are designed to support and allow vertical movement of the field pipe during thermal expansion. The constants have a load capacity of 2800 lbs. to 9200 lbs. and a 3”-7” travel range. To assure quality, standard load testing was performed on the constants prior to shipping. The assemblies’ components consist of a constant load hanger, a rod and a clamp. The constants are fabricated from ASTM A36 carbon steel and the rod and clamp were manufactured from ASTM A240, Gr. 304 stainless steel.

42” Hold Down with Wedge Support

PT&P designed and fabricated a Hold Down with wedge support for a 42” pipe. The entire assembly is PTFE, 25% glass filled, bonded and will be used to control and reduce pipe vibration at an LNG plant. Both the Hold Down and wedge support are made from A36 Carbon Steel and a fabric pad which is exceptionally suited for vibration impact and declination.

20,500 lb Riser Clamps for a Power Plant

PT&P recently fabricated 22 Fig. 190 Type 3 riser clamps for suspending the vertical runs of pipe at the central power plant in Puerto Rico.  The clamps are designed for 17" and 24” pipes and have an overall length of 71" and 87” respectively. Both designs have a bar stock size of 1.75"x10" and load bolts of 2.75" diameter. Utilizing gusset plates at the clamp’s bend radius allowed for the smallest, yet sufficient clamp stock size for the specified loads. The smaller clamp has an operating capacity of 14,000 lbs while the larger operates at 20,500 lbs. Chrome-Moy 387 Grade 22 bar stock was used with A193 Grade B7 bolting to accommodate high temperature operating conditions.

8,500 lb. Load Pipe Clamp Support Assembly

8,500 lb. Load Clamp Support Assembly PT&P recently designed and manufactured a support assembly with two PTP-2 Type C spring hangers and a special clamp support. The springs are designed for an 8,500 lb load and a maximum travel of 1″. The entire pipe hanger assembly, with a net weight of 860 lbs, was fabricated from Carbon Steel and A-387 GR. 22 Chrome. The springs were calibrated to determine the exact spring rate prior to adjusting to customer specifications.

Various Support Assemblies for a Power Generation Facility

Piping Technology & Products, Inc. designed and manufactured 85 support assemblies for a power generation facility in Georgia.   These assemblies consisted of Variable and Constant Assemblies and structures made with carbon steel and alloy material. The variable spring hanger assemblies have standard three-bolt clamps and lug attachments for the existing pipes. These variable spring hangers accommodate operating loads varying from 8,000 to 18,000 lb. and 1-1/2 " of upward travel. PT&P also manufactured a Fig.43 (heavy duty yoke u-bolt) for a 14" diameter pipe. Components of the Fig. 43 include yoke, U-bolt, shield, and lug. The structure (beam, plate, angle, and tube steel) was painted green as per the customer’s specifications.

3 Custom Built Disc-Spring Arrestors with Pipe Clamps

Posted by Sylvia Ibarra on Feb 28, 2003
3 Custom Built Disc-Spring Arrestors with Clamps

3 Custom Built Disc-Spring Arrestors with Clamps

The disc-spring arrestors provide resistance by utilizing disc springs (sometimes referred to as Belleville® washers) stacked in a series within the assembly housing to produce a specific spring rate.  By utilizing large (over 8 diameter) disc springs, very high spring rates may be obtained.  The arrestors are capable of operating in both tension and compression.

The housing, end bracket, and extension pieces of the spring arrestor are made form A-36 carbon steel. The disc springs are made from ASTM A-1075 spring steel. One clamp (for design temp. of 688 degrees F.) was made from carbon steel and two clamps (for design temp. of 1054 degrees F.) were fabricated from A-387 GR.22 Chrome-Moly steel.

The diameter of each disc spring was 9 with a thickness of 1. The overall pin-to-pin dimension for the assemblies varied with a minimum of 35 and a maximum length of 57. The maximum length that can be accommodated is 120. The clamps were made for 18 and 30 diameter pipes.

The shock arrestor will see a maximum operating load of 43,000 lbs. The spring rate of each arrestor was designed at 40,000 lb./in. The spring arrestors are designed for a maximum displacement of 2. The arrestors were tested to verify spring rate and to confirm the operation of the pipe hanger assembly.

40 Clamp Attachments for a Petrochemical Plant

The pipe clamp attachments shown are used for supporting vertical pipe sections to vessel clip anchors. These braces are designed for a maximum horizontal moment of 15,000 ft-lb at the vessel clip. All the clamps provided were made of carbon steel with a hot-dip-galvanized finish. The pipe hanger assembly lengths were fabricated per specifications provided by the client.

The pipe clamp components were designed and fabricated for non-standard pipe diameters (i.e. 13-3/4", 16-1/2") so that they could be used on insulated or finned pipelines.
