Variable Spring Hanger

This Webinar will focus on the different types of variable spring supports and big ton variable spring supports. Learn about the special features available, in addition to the design of a variable support. View how the different coil configurations produce a unique response to an applied load and see how a spring assembly is loaded. Discover the basic steps in selecting a hanger design and the step by step process used to size a spring for your application.

Learn about the different attachments, testing, and installation and maintenance procedures. View examples of failed supports provided by our Field Service Division and learn why they failed and how to prevent it. Gain knowledge of the valuable tips used when deciding to replace or re-calibrate a variable spring support, as well as adjustments, shutdown and isolation procedures.

The featured presenter, Jerry Godina has over 13 years experience as a pipe support designer and manages PT&P's engineer training development program. He also inspects existing supports, consults on site remediation projects and oversees installation on a regular basis.

Custom Designed Variable Spring Supports with Stainless Steel Slide Plates

Custom Designed Variable Spring Supports with Stainless Steel Slide Plates

This custom designed variable spring assembly is comprised of a standard PTP-1-160 type F variable spring with a supplementary extension and load flange with a stainless steel slide plate. The variable is fabricated entirely from carbon steel with a hot-dipped galvanize finish. The extension is schedule 40 pipe, 8" in diameter and 12-5/16" in height. The slide plate is fabricated from A240 grade stainless steel and is welded to the top of the load flange. This support will be used underneath a 16" diameter pipe with a dummy leg. It is designed for 1/16" vertical travel and 1/8" horizontal travel for an oil refinery in Algeria.

Constant Spring Supports with Corrosion Resistant Coating

Posted by Thea Milan on Jan 17, 2011

Fig. 200 C-Type ConstantsFig. 200 U-Type Upthrust ConstantsA "U-Type" and 6 "C-Type" constant spring supports were designed to support piping in a corrosive environment located off-shore in Malaysia. The U-Type measures 21" x 25" x 57" and C-Types range in size from 11-5/8" x 17" x 4" to 18-3/4" x 32" x 80".

Constant Spring Supports with Corrosion Resistent Coating

The constants are fabricated from A36 carbon steel with a fluorocarbon coating on the pins. The frame, housing, and all components were coated with a 3-coat paint system to resist corrosion. Standard load and travel tests were performed prior to shipping the constants on a rush basis.

Pre-Insulated Pipe Supports for an LNG Plant

PT&P manufactured a total of 1,400 supports for an LNG project. 75 of those supports were cold supports completed in less than one week on an emergency basis. The cold shoes were fabricated from a combination of polyurethane foam, carbon steel metal straps, and an aluminum metal jacket for insulation. They are designed for temperatures as low as -300°F and pipe sizes ranging from 12" to 36" in diameter. The 36" diameter shoes are designed for a vertical load of 102,000 lb. and the 12" diameter shoes are designed for 36,000 lb. load.
