Furnace Spring Assemblies up to 13,000 lbs. for a Chemical Refinery

Piping Technology and Products, Inc. designed and manufactured furnace spring assemblies for a chemical refinery in Saudi Arabia.  Each pipe hanger assembly consists of a variable spring, rod, clevis, hex nuts, and pipe attachments. Unlike other variable springs which are designed to have bolted housings, these furnace springs are designed for spring coils with a customer specified spring rate installed in a welded housing. The sizes of these Fig. PTP-2 and Fig. PTP-4 ranged from 90-170, with a total travel of 1 1/4" to 5", and loads varying from 850 lbs to 13,300 lbs.

Prior to the final welding, trial fit-up and cycle test were performed to ensure unrestrained movement throughout the designed travel range. The spring assemblies were then calibrated to determine the exact spring rate prior to shipping.

5,000 lb. Air Intake Stacks

Sweco Fab, Inc. designed and manufactured two 5,000 lb. air intake stacks and two 300 lb. dampers for an oil refinery in Baytown, Texas.  The air intake stack is designed to keep debris from traveling to the duct. It was manufactured from A-36 carbon steel and measures at 11'x 5'x 8.' The damper is designed to control ventilation in the ducts. This damper is manufactured from galvanized carbon steel and measures at 73.5" I.S. x 20.5" I.S. x 7.5" wide.

60" diameter Flue Gas Duct Vessel

Sweco Fab, Inc. designed and manufactured a Flue Gas Duct, weighing over 66,000 lbs. and 18'-5 in length, for an oil refinery in Detroit, Michigan. The duct is designed to transport hot gases from the regenerator to the flue gas cooler. The walls are 1/2 thick with a high-density vibracast refractory lining. The rest of the unit was fabricated out of carbon steel SA-516-70 and is designed for a maximum pressure of 51 PSIG and maximum temperature of 1450°F.

Leak examinations where performed on the unit after fabrication, which included a10 percent x-ray test, a100 percent dye-pen test and a hydrotest at 77 PSIG.

Three Segments 120° 72” diameter Saddle Support with Neoprene Backing

PT&P fabricated various sized pipe saddle supports used to support water mains for the city of Houston.  The pipe saddles, ranging from 30”-72” in length and 12” in width are made to cover 1/3 of the pipe’s circumference. They are made of A-304 stainless steel with a neoprene backing.

These saddles are used to provide a sliding surface between metal water mains and concrete base supports at fault crossings. The neoprene backing helps to dissipate any shock loads and provides an anti-skid surface at the fault crossing locations.

PTP-6 Carbon Steel Variable Springs

PT&P recently designed and manufactured PTP-6 Type G variable springs in size PTP 6-00-G for a power plant project in Colorado.  These variable springs are constructed from carbon steel with movement ranging from 1” to 2” and loads of 73 lbs and 52 lbs, respectively. They were tested prior to shipping for load and movement performance by using calibrated load cells.

42” Hold Down with Wedge Support

PT&P designed and fabricated a Hold Down with wedge support for a 42” pipe. The entire assembly is PTFE, 25% glass filled, bonded and will be used to control and reduce pipe vibration at an LNG plant. Both the Hold Down and wedge support are made from A36 Carbon Steel and a fabric pad which is exceptionally suited for vibration impact and declination.

Cold Shoes with a Load Capacity of 75,000 lbs

Cold Shoes with a Load Capacity of 75,000 lbs PT&P recently designed and manufactured over 1,000 Coldshoes for an LNG Plant in Egypt.  These shoes are designed to support loads up to 75,000 lbs. at an operating temperature of -350°F. They are customized to fit pipe sizes of 20”, 24”, 30”, and 36”. All Coldshoes are composed of stainless steel with a Micarta® insulator.  Micarta® is a woven glass fabric laminated with epoxy resin. It is extremely high in mechanical strength, has low moisture absorption and dissipative factors, and has superior electrical characteristics which are exhibited over a wide range of temperatures and humidities.
